Midway Atoll is best known for its association with the Second World War, and the naval Battle of Midway, in which the US navy inflicted a severe defeat on the Imperial Japanese navy. The strategic value of the atoll itself lay in its airfields: one on Sand Island, and another on Eastern Island. Only the airfield on Sand Island remains to this day, and the atoll is now part of United States’ Papahānaumokuākea Marine National Monument.
This nautical chart covers the southern part of the atoll, and the Midway Islands themselves. It was published in 2019 by the US National Oceanic and Atmopsheric Administration.
TROPICARTA has another two nautical charts relating to Midway Atoll. One covers the entire atoll. The other covers the seas between Midway Atoll and Kure Atoll (the outermost of the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands).
