Longyearbyen / 1:5 000

This is a topographic map of Longyearbyen on the island of Spitsbergen, the largest in the Norwegian territory of Svalbard.

Svalbard is located in the North Atlantic Ocean, and is best known for its Global Seed Bank, which makes use of the island’s low temperatures and permafrost to preserve the world’s plant diversity; and the Svalbard Treaty of 1920, which permits signatories to conduct peaceful scientific research on the territory.

This map was produced by Norway’s Viak in 1991, and has a contour interval of 2 metres. It is now distributed by the Norwegian Polar Institute.
