A tundra climate is often found in areas north of 70 °N, and islands near the Antarctic Convergence.

It is labelled ‘ET’ by the Köppen–Geiger scheme for the classification of climates, which requires:

  • the warmest month of the year to have an average temperature between 0 °C and 10 °C.
