A cool subtropical climate, with a dry winter, is associated with subtropical highlands. It is one of the three climate types described as monsoonal.
It is labelled ‘Cwc’ by the Köppen–Geiger scheme for the classification of climates, which requires:
- the warmest month of the year to have an average temperature under 22 °C
- between one and three months of the year to have an average temperature of 10 °C or above
- the coldest month of the year to have an average temperature above -3 °C
- annual precipitation to exceed the annual potential evapotranspiration
- the driest month of winter to have less than 10% the precipitation of the wettest summer month.
The ‘Cwc’ climate is rare, and does not predominate in any country.
