A tropical climate, with most rain in a wet season, is called a ‘tropical monsoon’ climate.
It is typically found between areas of tropical rainforest, and tropical savanna.
It is labelled ‘Am’ by the Köppen–Geiger scheme for the classification of climates, which requires:
- each month of the year to have an average temperature of 18 °C or greater
- at least one month of the year to have less than 60 mm of precipitation, but more than 100 ‐ (Total Annual Precipitation in mm / 25). In short, for the climate to have a less marked dry season than that of a tropical savanna.
